In honor of International Women’s Day, we want to take a moment to talk about one of our favorite actress/boss lady/style icons: Emma Watson.
The British beauty is famous for using her fame for good, and taking a stand for causes she cares about. Her extracurricular activities include being the United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador, work with HeForShe, and her campaign for university administrators to address sexual assault on campus to name a few.
In a recent interview with The Coveteur, Watson talked about sustainable fashion and her journey to a more ethical lifestyle.
Emma’s passion for sustainable fashion started during her studies at Oxford University. She met Safia Minney of People Tree, a pioneer in sustainable and fair trade clothing, and took a trip to Bangladesh with her. The Rana plaza incident, one of the deadliest garment factory accidents in history, had a big impact on her, as well as the documentary True Cost, a poignant documentary film that explores the impact of fashion on people and the planet.
Emma Watson is challenging herself to participate in the Green Carpet Challenge, an organization that works with celebrities to challenging herself to wear sustainable clothing on the red carpet to raise the profile of sustainability, ethics and social welfare.
On her Beauty and the Beast press tour, Emma is showcasing eco-conscious and sustainable pieces she wears on Instagram @the_press_tour. Follow along to discover new ethical brands and for inspiration!
