Winter weather is the harshest on your skin and it’s more important than ever to make the time and effort to take care of yourself. In honor of Valentine’s Day approaching, we are taking a moment to celebrate the art of self care with Palermo Body.
Palermo Body is a Brooklyn-based collection of truly natural skin care products made by hand in small batches by founder Jessica Morelli in her studio in Brooklyn. Each product is consciously formulated by choosing every ingredient with purpose, and mindfulness of its benefits to your skin and effect on the environment.
We asked founder Jessica a few questions about Palermo's mission, sustainability, and her self care practices.
How was Palermo Body born?
Palermo was born out of a combination of my love for creating and the desire to have luxurious natural skin care options that fit seamlessly into my daily routine. Creating completely natural products was important to me because of the holistic values my Sicilian Grandmother instilled in me as a child, so to honor her I named the brand Palermo Body after her home in Sicily.
What are some simple self care practices you recommend?
Taking a bath is a great way to simultaneously activate your senses and relax. I want our products to add beauty and ritual into the daily lives of those who use them. Take the 90 extra seconds in the morning to mist your face few spritzes of our Hydrating Facial Toner, and apply our . In the evenings, treat yourself to a 15 min Vitamin C Mask after work to unwind and replenish your skin.
Tell us about the Coffee Culture Kit- what's the story behind it?
The Coffee Culture Kit as an ode to the coffee community, local makers and business owners here in Brooklyn who share thoughtful business practices in sourcing fair trade, sustainable and organic ingredients. The set includes Palermo’s famous Organic fair trade Coffee Body Scrub, an Organic, vegan Espresso Chocolate Bar handcrafted by Haute Chocolate, and fair trade Ethiopian Washed Coffee from Brooklyn Roasting Company.
How do you implement sustainability in your production practices?
We reuse packing material for wholesale distribution whenever possible while also sourcing sustainable packing materials like biodegradable packing peanuts. We use post consumer paper, nontoxic cleaning products and recycle everything we can. I am always trying to find new ways we can lighten our footprint on the environment.
What is the story behind the Me Time Kit?
When putting together this kit, my intention was to remind you to slow down and make that “me-time” for yourself. I chose my favorite candle hand-poured soy wax candle from Simply Curated, and non-toxic vegan nail polish by Sundays to complement our best selling exfoliating and detoxifying Vitamin C Mask.
